History & Origins of Bonnaroo
Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival was first held in June 2002 on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee. The name comes from a Creole slang term meaning "a really good time." Created by Superfly Presents and AC Entertainment, the festival was designed as a multi-day, camping-focused music event inspired by festivals like Woodstock and Glastonbury. Bonnaroo quickly became one of America's premier music festivals, known for its positive community atmosphere and diverse lineup spanning rock, hip-hop, electronic, country, and jam bands. In 2019, it was recognized with a Governor's Arts Award.
